Talk details

Service Weaver(SW) is a programming framework that makes it easy to write, deploy, and manage cloud applications in Go. It allows to postpone some of the hard decisions regarding how to split into microservices for later, while enabling to write fewer and better microservices. SW improves application latency by up to 15x and reduces the infrastructure cost by up to 9x compared to state of the art. Also, SW allows to deploy the same application binary locally and across multiple cloud environments.
We will talk about our own experience developing cloud applications, and also key findings based on conversations with various infrastructure teams at Google. The way people write cloud applications today is very cumbersome, hence it slowdowns innovation and hinders applications’ performance. We will present the key ideas in SW and a demo. Finally, how to leverage open source projects like Kubernetes, Prometheus, Perfetto, Jaeger and Open Telemetry to deploy and instrument SW applications.
