WebAssembly has shown to be an ideal format for creating a platform- and language-independent programs, despite being first created for the web. Docker containers are a similar concept that you may be familiar with from the container world. WebAssembly is even more effective than containers because it is quick, portable, secure, and operates at native speed. The workloads are substantially lower in size than containers because they are in a sandbox, making them far more secure than containers which are especially great for edge-based applications. This workshop aims to explain WebAssembly and its use in a cloud-native system. The audience will learn the basics of WASM, the Wasmtime project and WebAssembly System Interface (WASI). It will then be shown how to run WebAssembly workloads on Kubernetes with the Krustlet project. The workshop will be beginner-friendly (Beginner level knowledge of Kubernetes is recommended). All of this will be live and hands-on.
